Teaser Video

Recently, Justin Bieber has released "teasers" for his new video Boyfriend. We really liked this idea and thought we would try and attempt one ourselves and see if it worked.
Here are the examples of Justin Bieber's teasers and the finally the one we created ourselves. We will gain some audience feedback on the idea and whether it actually enticed our intended audience.

99 Problems - Jay Z - Scene Shots

Here is Jay-z's legendary music video for 99 Problems. We looked at this video for inspirtation for our scene shots and timinig. We also wanted to see if it worked to have scenic shots with lip syncing added in between.

Coldplay - Charlie Brown

Here is Coldplay's newest video - Charlie Brown. I really liked this video as it contained the scenic shots which we tried to achieve. It also plays on the idea of youth in an urban world which we wanted to show aswell. I also really liked the neon/UV performance scenes which was one of our original ideas but proved too hard to do!

Lyric Video

After looking at the All of the Lights video again by Kanye West, we decided to try and recreate the clips of the lyrics, however obviously apply to our own lyrics.

Here is Kanye West's video:

And here is the video we created:

Colour Change - Redlight

After watching Redlight - Get Out My Head we immediately tried to re-create the colour change effect we all really liked.

Here is what we created:

I think this effect worked really well and we will definitely be using this in our final video.

Redlight - Get Out My Head

In this video for Redlight - Get Out My Head, I really like the beginning and how the clips change quickly on the beat of the music. I also like how to clips change from black and white to colour and also different tones of colours. I hope that we can use this effect within our promo music video during the editing stage.

Sub Focus - Falling Down

This video by Sub Focus for their latest song "Falling Down" illustrates a few ideas we have been thinking about using. It includes festival shots and performance DJ shots. We are hoping to gather some festival footage from our own experiences and festivals and maybe stage our own DJ table to look like we are actually performing the song.

DJ Fresh Ft Rita Ora - Hot Right Now

In this video (DJ Fresh - Hot Right Now ft Rita Ora), I really like the urban feel of the video. It contains elements we wish to include in our music video like the grafitti, strong female lead character and the industrial location.

Japanese Popstars & Cher Lloyd

Lana and I were searching Virgin Media for new music videos and we came across this video by Japanese Popstars.
It keeps happening!!!!
We keep finding videos with things in that we wanted to do, but I guess that just gives us and insight into the music video industry.
Here is what we collected.

It's also happened with Cher Lloyds new video "Want You Back". We filmed our friend Georgia in a bath tub with balloons and Cher Lloyd has now done the same thing.

JME - 96 F**KRIES

In JME's new video he uses the camera technique/equipment we learnt about in AS - the SnorriCam. It would be really effective if we could use this in our music video and would look original.

I also really like JME's use of his twitter account. He constantly replies to fans and uses it to promote his up and coming singles, albums and videos. Moreover, the UK Grime artist promotes other artists work as they are all under the group "BBK" (Boy Better Know) - established by JME himself - who now run their own record label which features a huge amount of UK Grime artists.

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

Not sure how to link this too our music video but LANA DEL REY IS SO BEAUTIFUL. :(

Serious side: the shocking element at the end, of what I assume is her boyfriend, killing her is quite similiar to what we want to achieve in our coursework.

Opening Shot/Setting Shots

Here is a screen shot of an establishing shot from Wiz Khalifa's Black and Yellow which I thought looked very effective. We are now trying our own establishing shots as we have a huge number of locations open to us.

Nero - Reaching Out

Here is Nero's new video for their song "Reaching Out". Weirdly enough, this video seems to copy the effects used in Metronomy's "The Bay" that we have blogged a lot about before. It uses the same opening with the opening black screens and the continuous split screens. We are still using this effect in our music video. I also really like the old 80's feel to the footage in this music video. We are thinking about adding old home videos in our production to create the feeling of young vs old.

Lady Gaga

Here is Lady Gaga's new music video/a-whole-feauture-length-film for her single "Marry The Night". Although 13 minutes long, I have watched this over about ten times! I think as a piece of art its beautiful. But from a music video perspective, I really like the fast montage towards the end of the video where the music becomes more fast paced. We hoping to recreate this at the beginning of our music video as a "flashback" element.

The Wanted - Warzone

As much as I hate that this is The Wanted, I do really like the effect used throughout the video. This is the effect that everything around them is in slow motion however they're still singing in time with the song at normal speed. Lana figured out that they had sped up the song as they filmed it, and slowed it back down to normal speed when the edited it. We could perhaps use this for our coursework.

Green Screen

This week we ordered our own green screen material off of eBay. Our plan was to make green screen clothes and having moving images on them, however unfortunately the material was too dark and therefore did not work!

Tuesday, 25 October 2011

Here is our first storyboard, it shows the opening shot and what we hope to achieve.
We are thinking of making this animated to get a better idea of how it will look - this will help towards our decision making as it gives a very draft of how it will look and we can make changes early on in the process.
Creating a storyboard in general helps with organisation and timing.

Contacting Record Company

Yasemin contacted the new producers of our new song so that we had permission to use it without any issues of copyright.

Calvin Harris - Feel So Close

I love this video! And it actually reminds me of Marina and The Diamonds - Radioactive which I blogged about earlier.

Its a fun video and uses bright colours to show this. Its also very summery and I love the locations!

Mac Miller - Frick Park Market

I really like the opening shot of this video by Mac Miller. Its a good location (similar to our AS coursework). I also like idea of going into a completely different world (when he goes through the door). From there on he's used the idea of the UV paint which we wanted to you and can hopefully still recreate somehow. He also has characters in full fancy dress outfits/costumes which we also wanted to use.
